WASHINGTON-Paul Begala, CNN political analyst and commentator, will keynote NAFCU's 2013 Congressional Caucus Sept. 8-11 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington. The deadline for early registration savings for association members and nonmembers is July 19.

CEO Named Best Corp. Citizen
VANCOUVER, B.C.-Tamara Vrooman, CEO of Vancity Savings Credit Union, was named Canada's best corporate citizen in the Top 50 ranking as an "outspoken supporter of social and environmental causes," according to the publication Corporate Knights. Vrooman and Vancity were recognized for efforts to narrow the pay gap between executives and other employees and for the diversity of its board and management.
Advantis Sponsoring The Hops
HILLSBORO, Ore.-Advantis Credit Union has signed on as a "Founding Corproate Partner" with the Hillsboro Hops, Single-A baseball affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball. The team's season runs from mid-June to early September. All founding partners will have featured signage adjacent to the video board, promotional opportunities, hospitality opportunities,and use of the Hops team marks for co-marketing.
Eight New Yorkers Honored
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y.-The Credit Union Association of New York recognized eight CU leaders during its annual meeting here. Recognized were:
* John Felton, president/CEO of Southern Chautauqua FCU, who was inducted into the New York Hall of Fame.
* Donald Bruning, board president of the Great Erie FCU in Orchard Park; Don Briner, associate board member of the Hudson River Community CU; and Ann Tyler, board chair of AmeriCU as Outstanding Volunteers.
* Marsha Brauer, manager/CEO of the Clarence Community & Schools FCU; William Carhart, president/CEO of Oswego County FCU in Oswego; and Lisa Whitaker, president/CEO of the CFCU Community CU in Ithaca, as outstanding professionals.
* Lisa Totaro, marketing associate at Sunmark FCU, as outstanding young professional.
Heape Named Pro of the Year
ALBANY, Ga.-Barry O. Heape, president/CEO of DOCO Credit Union, has been presented with the Moses C. Davis Professional of the Year Award by the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates. The award recognizes significant contemporary contributions to the CU movement.
Apple FCU Is Recognized
FAIRFAX, Va.-The Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) Office of Community and Business Engagement has named Apple Federal Credit Union Education Foundation 2013 Business Partner of the Year. APFCU was recognized for numerous initiatives, including a New Teacher Induction Program, student-run CUs, and grants to teachers and schools.
Sun FCU Wins HR Award
TOLEDO, Ohio- Sun FCU has received the University of Toledo's 2013 Human Resource Management Award for Excellence, which recognizes an HR department that is "found to have a profound impact on their organization's performance through demonstrated commitment, innovation and leadership in the HR function."
New CEOs Named At Several CUs
ST. CHARLES, Mo.-1st Financial FCU has appointed Carol Minges as Interim CEO, replacing the outgoing Frank Nelson. Minges had been CIO. In North Charleston, S.C., meanwhile, James Gergen has been named CEO of $280 million CPM Federal Credit Union. In Baltimore, Post Office Credit Union of Maryland here has named Carol Bradley as its new CEO. Bradley has been with POCU since 2007, having held positions as Controller and BSA Officer.
White Paper On Collateral Risk
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Lending Council has released a new white paper, "Collateral Risk: Insights on Loan Portfolio Monitoring and Management." The paper focuses on the causes of collateral risk exposure, how macro and microeconomic factors affect collateral risk, risks specific to certain loan types, proactively managing collateral risk, implementing systems, and bringing the conversation full circle with a discussion about member outreach.
