Elevations Taps Agnes For CEO Spot

BOULDER, Colo.–Elevations CUs has hired Gerry Agnes, most recently president of Riverside, Calif.-based Altura CU, as its new president and CEO.

Agnes will succeed Bill Sterner, the well-known president of Elevations who died of a heart attack March 31.

Agnes, who had served as Altura’s chief operating officer, was named president of the $925-million credit union last year in a reorganization, with Mark Hawkins retaining the title of CEO. Altura has more than 110,000 members.

Sterner was a long-time credit union activist who broke in with the World Council of CUs. He helped organize credit unions on Indian reservations before heading Elevations. He was married to Pat Brownell, former director of the National CU Foundation.

Farm Bureau Becomes Interra CU

GOSHEN, Ind.–After 76 years as Farm Bureau Credit Union, it has changed its name to Interra Credit Union.

The name change followed a request by the American Farm Bureau Federation, which owns a trademark on “farm bureau,” that it change its name. The name change process was led by Seattle-based Weber Marketing Group, which said 96% of members voted in favor (Indiana requires 75% of members approve).

The $455-million CU said the new name combines “In” for Indiana and “terra,” for land, representing its agricultural roots.(c) 2008 The Credit Union Journal and SourceMedia, Inc. All Rights Reserved.http://www.cujournal.com http://www.sourcemedia.com
