NAFCU Rounding Out Caucus Schedule
WASHINGTON-NAFCU has added to its schedule of speakers for its Sept. 20-23 Congressional Caucus House Financial Services Committee members Brad Miller (D-NC), Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) and Jim Himes (D-CT). Gordon Simmons Returns To Chair At DCUC
PORTSMOUTH, N.H.-Gordon A. Simmons, president/CEO of the $1.3 billion Service Credit Union here, has been re-elected chairman of the Defense Credit Union Council for the 2009-2010 term.
A 38-year-veteran of the credit union movement, Simmons also served as DCUC chairman for the past two years, as well as during 2000-2002.
WOCCU To Implement $34M Plan In Haiti
MADISON, Wis.-The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has designated World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) as lead implementer for a three-year, $34.4 million multi-partner program to strengthen enterprise development and promote job creation in rural Haiti. The Haiti Integrated Financing for Value Chains and Enterprises program will work with the financial sector to bring savings, credit and remittance-linked products to underserved areas of the country and provide technical training to micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises. Nearly $1M Raised During First Half Of Year
RANCHO CUCAMONGA,Calif.-Nearly $1 million has been raised for Children's Miracle Network during the first six months of CO-OP Financial Services' Miracle Match program. Through June 30, the 130 participating credit unions raised $517,000 and CO-OP Miracle Match donations have added $445,000 for a total of $962,000 to CMN. CO-OP said it is committed to donating up to $1 million of matching funds in 2009. PHOENIX-The $420-million Arizona Central CU has named Todd A. Pearson as CEO. Pearson previously served as interim CEO. In Miami Lakes, Fla., Jeanne Kucey has been named CEO of JetStream FCU. Prior to her selection, Kucey was president of Retail Employees CU in Atlanta,
'Father' Of South Korea's CUs Dies
MADISON, Wis.-The man called the "Father of Korea's Credit Unions" and who helped start or develop CUs across Asia has died. Augustine J.R. Kang, 85, died here following a stroke. Mr. Kang helped charter South Korea's first CU before becoming the first general manager of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions. He soon moved to the World Council of Credit Unions, where he helped work with CU movements in 20 different Asian Countries.
