Salem VA CU Opens Facility

ROANOKE, Va.-The $52-million Salem VA Credit Union has opened a new branch with a strong retail orientation.

Among the branch features are Starbucks coffee, chilled water bottles, a plasma TV, comfortable chairs and stools, and a gas fireplace. The branch is the first of its kind in the Roanoke Valley.

"The first reaction we expect to hear from members is 'This can't be a bank,'" said Steve Anderson, CEO of Salem VA Credit Union. "We've taken the freshest ideas in retail financial services today, listened to the needs of our members, incorporated easy-to-use technology and added a splash of chic design and creativity. The result is a welcoming, fun place to do business."

The 71-year-old credit union only previous facility had been located inside the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and it maintains that office. The new branch includes a welcome station and "pods" at which members can conduct transactions. A roving "member experience specialist" is also available to assist members.
