NY League Wins Hermes Award

ALBANY, N.Y.-The Credit Union Association of New York won three 2011 Hermes Creative Awards-a platinum, gold and an honorable mention in the Publications/Magazine category, Web Multimedia/Games/Contests/Presentation category, and Design/Publication Cover category, respectively The awards are presented by the Association of Marketing and Communication.

 

NAFCU Adds 'Compliance GPS'

Boston CU Hires a Spokes-Bruin

BOSTON-City of Boston Credit Union has signed Boston Bruin Shawn Thornton as its new spokesperson. Thornton is a member of the credit union and will be featured in a number of media pieces.

 

MATCU Changing Name To Orion

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Memphis Area Teachers' CU is changing its name to Orion FCU. The $526-million CU said the move follows expansion to a community charter.

 

CFO Council Names Exec Committee

MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA CFO Council has named its executive committee and officers: Chairman, David D'Annunzio, SVP/CFO for Heritage Trust FCU in Charleston, S.C.; Vice Chair, Brandon Michaels, CFO for Mazuma CU in Kansas City, Mo., and Secretary/Treasurer, Kevin Durrance, CFO for Old Hickory CU in Tennessee. Also elected to the exec committee were Suzanne Weinstein of Orlando FCU, and William Kennedy of Jersey Shore FCU. Mary Torsney of Financial Partners CU was appointed to a board vacancy.

 

More CUs Announce Mergers

BEAVERTON, Ore.-The $505-million Rivermark Community CU is absorbing via merger the $7-million Portland Onized CU. The combined CU will serve more than 59,000 members. In Pawtucket, R.I., Alliance Blackstone Valley FCU will merge with Blackstone River FCU, Woonsocket. Joseph J. Cicione III, president/COO of ABVFCU, will retain that title, while James wood, CEO at BRFCU, will be EVP. Blackstone River will operate under the umbrella of the Alliance name. In Sioux Falls, S.D., Bell FCU is being absorbed via merger by Midwest Partners FCU, to create a $65-million CU. Darla Erb, president of Bell FCU, will become CEO of the merged CU, while Jeff Schmidt, president of MPFCU, will become COO. In Whittier, Calif., the $600-million Credit Union of Southern California is acquiring Inland Empire CU, Pomona, Calif.

 

International CU Day Slogan Selected

FirstMark Recognized By PTMA

SAN ANTONIO-Firstmark Credit Union has recognized at the Professional Teleservice Management Association with two awards: "Best Contact Center of the Year" in the Under 75 Seats category, and as "Best Contact Center Leader" going to Linda Sue Rodriguez, AVP Member Contact Center.

 

Carolinas Foundation Names CEO

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation (CCUF) has named John McGrail as its new president/CEO. McGrail is a 22-year veteran of CUs, and was most recently CEO of Lion's Share FCU in Salisbury, N.C.

 

Two CEOs Announce Retirements

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Two CU CEOs have announced retirements. Mazuma Credit Union President/CEO, Rob Givens said he will retire from the $448-million CU on Jan.1, 2012. A 25-year veteran who has held positions at seven different CUs, Givens joined Mazuma in 2001 and has overseen a near doubling of asset size and the launch of several CUSOs, and has also been very active in the community.

In Yorktown, Va., Adrian "Casey" Duplantier plans to retire as CEO of the $550-million 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union, after 25 years as CEO, following 10 years as a CEO of a New Orleans CU.
