South Carolina CU Veteran Dies

COLUMBIA, S.C.-Former CEO of Founders FCU, Laura Monts Fleming, has died, the credit union announced.

During her long credit union career, Fleming also served on the South Carolina Credit Union League board of directors, the NAFCU Regional Advisory Board, CUNA's Values Campaign Committee, and the South Carolina Governor's Mansion Foundation.

Calif. League Publication Honored

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-For the seventh consecutive year, the California Credit Union League received honors in the annual APEX Awards.

Its publication, Credit Union Digest, in the Magazines and Journals Printed Four Color Category, and the website for the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation, both won Awards of Excellence. The APEX Awards received 4,928 entries this year.

FHCU To Merge With Pentagon

KILLEEN, Texas-Fort Hood Credit Union here has agreed to merge with Alexandria, Va.-based Pentagon FCU. The 5,985 members of Fort Hood Credit Union will become members of PFCU on Sept. 1, 2003, and their accounts will be converted to corresponding Pentagon FCU accounts on Nov. 1.

The $5.9-billion Pentagon Federal has 526,000 members. There are more than 42,000 active military in the Fort Hood-Killeen area, and another 38,000 dependents and retirees. Pentagon Federal Credit Union currently has more than 2,400 members in the Killeen area.

Loan, CFO Councils Offer Guidance

MADISON, Wis.-Two CUNA Councils have published white papers. "Reporting ALM Results to Directors," by Robert F. Lestina, and "The Savings and Loan Crisis: A Retrospective View," by Brian Hague are the latest white papers released by the CUNA CFO Council and the CUNA Lending Council, respectively.

"Reporting ALM Results To Directors" provides readers with tools, tips, and techniques on how to present the information in a simple, summarized manner, CUNA said. "The Savings and Loan Crisis" paper outlines how credit unions can learn from the lessons developed from the thrift industry's experience, and how to apply those lessons to contemporary market conditions.
