Y-12 FCU Joins the Billion Dollar Club

Y-12 Federal Credit Union has reached an important financial milestone, hitting the $1 billion mark in assets.

A group of five employees started the credit union in 1950 at a spare space at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn. After a month of operations, the credit union claimed 200 members and $5,000 in assets.

Y-12 FCU moved to its current headquarters on Lafayette Drive in 1961 and underwent a significant expansion in 1977.

Along with $1 billion in assets, the credit union currently has 14 branches and nine in-school student-run branches along with 107,200 members across Eastern Tennessee.
