Big donations for local nonprofits

In honor of local veterans, Columbia CU, Vancouver, Wash., donated $13,900 to two nonprofits: Vancouver Community Military Appreciation Committee and Home with Heroes. The donations were made in connection with the credit union’s Veterans Appreciation Vehicle Loan promotion.

Habitat home

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for a family in need. Staff from the CU’s New Jersey region volunteered their time to help with floor installation, painting, power washing, cabinet/hardware installation, and landscaping.

Getting in the spirit

Wescom CU, Pasadena, Calif., surprised shoppers by picking up the tab when they bought their Christmas tree. Wescom paid up to $100 per customer at 14 Christmas tree lots throughout the Southland. Each of the pop-up lots gave away $2,000 worth of Christmas trees.

Fee reduction recognition

Royal CU, Eau Claire, Wis., earned the second place national-level Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award from CUNA in the over $1 Billion in assets category. Royal eliminated 100% of punitive fees and achieved a total fee reduction of $6.7 million by eliminating fees ranging from $40 to fifty cents. Separately, RCU’s Foundation gifted $50,000 to Beaver Creek Reserve for the Discover the Deep Woods exhibit.

The big shred

A grand opening celebration brought 350 people to Laurel, Md.-based Tower FCU’s newest branch in Pasadena’s Magothy Beach Plaza. Residents shredded 2.5 tons of paper and Tower donated $2,500 to an area organization dedicated to serving those living with disabilities.

Cougar 100

TDECU, Lake Jackson, Texas, was a presenting sponsor of the 2016 Cougar 100 celebration – an annual University of Houston Alumni Association event recognizing the 100 most successful Cougar-owned and Cougar-led companies internationally. Separately, TDECU’s annual food drive collected more than 2,400 items for donation to local community organizations.

Days of giving

Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., gave back to the community during the holidays with its 25 Days of Holiday Giving. The CU selected 25 organizations throughout its county radius to provide a monetary donation to help the organizations with their holiday festivities.

SPIRE Credit Union, Falcon Heights, Minn., won the 2016-2017 Torch Awards for Ethics in the 176+ employees category from the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota.

CHOP benefit

In Philadelphia, American Heritage CU supported the 15th Annual 98.1 WOGL “Love Our Kids Radiothon” by donating $2,400 to the Kids-N-Hope Foundation, which funds the Music Therapy Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Putting the 'fun' in 'fundraiser'

Arizona Central CU, Phoenix, hosted 140 golfers at Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale to raise funds for local cancer patients and their families. The CU’s fifth annual charity golf outing once again raised a record amount − $75,000 − to benefit Cancer Support Community Arizona.
