New tech in Middle Tennessee
Ascend FCU, Tullahoma, Tenn., held a grand opening for its new facility in Hendersonville. The new financial center, which is the credit union’s 19th Middle Tennessee location, features technology that is the first of its kind in the mid-state area.
Backpack Attack and more
Scott CU, Edwardsville, Ill., donated $15,000 to Gateway Region YMCA for sponsorship of the organization’s Y Cup Race Series, Backpack Attack, annual golf tournament, Jefferson Street Community Center in O’Fallon, Y camps, family programming and Operation Kid Comfort.
Filling a truck and making a difference
Southeastern CU, Valdosta, Ga., earned an Honorable Mention in CUNA’s Dora Maxwell Award competition in the $50 million to $250 million asset category for the credit union’s Fill-a-Truck for Hunger food drive.
Five-grand fundraiser
New England FCU, Williston, Vt., donated $5,000 to sponsor Champlain Housing Trust’s Fundraising Campaign.
Branch expansion
Anchorage-based Alaska USA FCU opened two new branches, one in Arizona and one in Washington. The Arcadia, Ariz., branch is the seventh to open in the Phoenix area, while the new branch in Washington is the first in the Puyallup area. Separately, the CU’s annual Cash for Cans food drive raised $80,400 nationwide.
Employee volunteerism
Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., hosted an employee-wide Volunteer Fair, and sparked a desire to create change. Separately, Firefly hosted future-focused high school students for career panels as an efficient, but insightful, alternative to job shadowing.
Sikorsky's shredding success story
Sikorsky CU, Stratford, Conn., joined forces with William B. Meyer, Inc., and the Stratford Rotary in hosting a Shred It Day event. In addition to paper shredding, unused electronics were collected for disposal and recycling.
Big donations in Georgia
Robins Financial CU, Warner Robins, Ga., donated more than $82,000 to five organizations as part of its annual Community Project. Separately, Robins contributed $2,000 to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.
Brand new branch
Mid-Hudson Valley FCU, Kingston, N.Y., celebrated the grand opening of its new Fishkill Branch. The 2,350-square-foot, full-service branch is located on Route 9, next to the Red Line Diner.
USDA lender of the year
Greater Nevada CU, Carson City, Nev., was named the 2016 National Lender of the Year by the Unites States Department of Agriculture after GNCU obligated more than $120 million in loans, all guaranteed by the agency's Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program.
