Tower FCU hosted its eighth annual health and wellness fair at its Laurel, Md. headquarters. Approximately 80 employees attended the event to take advantage of free health screenings.
Taunton FCU, Taunton, Mass., collected more than 100 books as part of the Massachusetts CU League's Children's Book Month initiative.
Founders FCU held its 2014 Annual Meeting at the CU's headquarters in Lancaster, S.C. After returning $5.7 million to its members in 2013, Founders still posted net income of more than $11.2 million.
GTE Financial, Tampa, Fla., was recognized as "Driver of the Year" by Wheels of Success, a nonprofit that provides transportation solutions to families in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.
In Sioux Falls, S.D., Voyage FCU celebrated its 75th anniversary with a variety of events, including a 75-day disposable diaper drive to benefit Feeding South Dakota/ Food Pantry, and a donation of $7,500 to the neonatal intensive care unit at Avera McKennan Hospital.
In Portsmouth, N.H., Service CU EVP William Newman presented Greg Whalen, chairman of the Seacoast Chapter of Veterans Count, with a generous donation which will assist veterans in the region.
R.I.A. FCU, Bettendorf, Iowa, promoted CUNA's National Credit Union Youth Week's "Catch the Save Wave." Charli Moore (pictured) won the $100 drawing for being a new youth member during the month. In addition, R.I.A awarded $1,000 scholarships to two high school seniors, Brady Ruden and Casee Meincke, and Kimberly Johnson, who attends Northern Illinois University, was awarded the $1,000 R.H. Mayers Scholarship.
Quincy CU, Quincy, Mass., raised $3,000 for The Boston One Fund, which helps those most affected by the Marathon bombings.
OnPoint Community CU, Portland, Ore., named Elizabeth Lawson K-8 Educator of the Year and Susan Bartley 9-12 Educator of the Year. OnPoint will pay each of their mortgages for one school year and donate $1,000 to their respective schools for resources and supplies.
Advia CU, Parchment, Mich., awarded $20,000 in its Advancing Lives Sweepstakes. Ten members were given $1,000 to advance their lives, plus the CU donated $1,000 to the winners' favorite charitable organizations.
Del-One FCU, Dover, Del., recognized Lessard Builders as its Employer Group of the Month for the company's partnership with the CU and its vast presence in the community.
Financial Resources FCU Foundation, Bridgewater, N.J., said its annual charity event raised $22,000 to benefit The Autism Medical Assessment & Treatment Center NJ.
Associated CU, Norcross, Ga., teamed up with WSB Radio's Adam Goldfein for the CU's 4th Annual Car Buying & Mortgage Clinic recorded live during the Adam Goldfein Show. Two of the CU's lending experts, Bill Baum and Chad Evans, were guests on the show to help Goldfein answer lending questions from a live audience.
Achieva CU, Dunedin, Fla., presented a $10,000 check to the Hillsborough Education Foundation to kick off a multi-year beneficiary partnership. It was the largest gift to date in an ongoing relationship between Achieva and the Education Foundation.
Municipal CU, New York, donated $25,000 to City Harvest for the Skip Lunch Fight Hunger initiative, a campaign dedicated to feeding children and their families throughout the NYC area who may not have access to free school meals during the summer months.
Align CU, Lowell, Mass., supported the Merrimack Valley Food Bank at the organization's 9th Annual Grape Expectations event.
Montana Credit Unions for Community Development gave the Student Assistant Foundation a Philosophy in Action award for its work with the Matched Education Savings Account program.
St. Anne's CU, Fall River, Mass., was the entertainment sponsor for the Eighth Annual Taste of SouthCoast Festival in New Bedford. Several CU employees volunteered their time at the St. Anne's booth to answer questions and give out promotional items. Separately, the CU held a "Casual Day for a Cause" that raised $267 for Boston Children's Hospital.
