United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., said Member Service Advisor Ruth Beach launched a new charity called "Handles of Hope," which provides bags filled with resources, information and comfort aids to newly diagnosed cancer patients. The CU helped Beach by contributing $4,000 to help get the charity off the ground. Separately, the CU donated $3,000 to the Lake Michigan College Winner's Circle 23 Scholarship Benefit Auction.
Western Heritage CU, Alliance, Neb., opened a new office in Scottsbluff, Neb.
Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., took first place in the 2012 National Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in its asset category.
Southbridge CU, Southbridge, Mass., is celebrating its 75th anniversary. As part of the celebration, the CU has given 69-year member John Peterkin the title to his car (on which he had just recently made the final payment to the CU) and a $100 gift certificate to a local gas station.
New England FCU, Williston, Vt., donated $26,453.27 to Vermont Children's Hospital.
Tower FCU, Laurel, Md., raised $32,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center during the CU's annual "Have A Heart" fundraiser.
CFE FCU, Lake Mary, Fla., said it donated a total of $108,300 over the course of 2012 to Orange, Seminole and Osceola County school districts through its MyCFE-4Schools affinity debit card program.
St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H., teamed up with Computer Technology Assistance Corps to donate 12 refurbished personal computers to Manchester West High School.
OMNI Community CU, Battle Creek, Mich., awarded a $1,000 "Gives Back" grant to Senior Health Partners to sponsor the Santa Sock Hop.
Security Service FCU, San Antonio, was recognized by the Association of the U.S. Army for its commitment to support soldiers and their families stationed at Fort Bliss. Separately the CU announced it recently reached $7 billion in assets and also teamed up with the Armed Forces Financial Network to donate 100 $50 gift cards to the Lackland Fisher House.
Industrial CU, Boston, Mass., awarded $1,000 scholarships to 10 area students. Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 Olympic Gold Medal "Miracle on Ice" USA Hockey Team participated in the announcement, drawing the winning names from among the applicants.
Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., donated $5,000 to the LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk.
GCS CU, Granite City, Ill., donated $12,500 for March for Babies, and employees raised an additional $1,345 through "jeans day" donations for the charity.
St. Anne's CU, Fall River, Mass., participated in the Greater Bristol County Home & Garden Show. In other news, the credit union hosted its annual "Souper Bowl" canned goods drive for St. Anne's Food Pantry and participated in the 5th Annual "Miles for SMILES" event, raising more than $700 for the charity.
Honor CU, Berrien Springs, Mich., hosted the Pennies for Patients fundraising event run by local students participating in the Jobs for America's Graduates program. Separately, the CU is sponsoring the 2013 Berrien County Youth Fair.
Affinity FCU, Basking Ridge, N.J., awarded $500 to Neal Katz as part of the CU's "Keep Cool" Facebook sweepstakes.
Belvoir FCU, Woodbridge, Va., in partnership with the Armed Forces Financial Network, donated 20 $50 gift cards to the Fisher House in Fort Belvoir, Va.
121 Financial CU, Jacksonville, Fla., participated in Durbins Creek Elementary School's "Space Night," which featured moon rocks displayed by NASA's Diedre Adams, whose visit was sponsored by the CU.
Texas Dow Employees CU, Lake Jackson, Texas, was named 2013 Corporate Business of the Year by the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In other news the CU also was honored with the Beautification Award by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, announced plans to open additional TDECU Real Estate offices, and teamed up with Greater Mount Zion Church to host a series of free financial wellness seminars.
Freedom CU, Warminster, Penn., kicked off a year-long community partnership with the Abington YMCA with a sponsorship of $2,500. In other news, the CU donated $200 to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in honor of the retirement of Internal Auditor Bill Hill. The credit union also awarded a week-long vacation to the Jersey Shore to Patricia Haer as part of the CU's Personal Loan Beach Vacation Giveaway promotion.
Central Macomb Community CU, Clinton Township, Mich., participated in the Spring Home Improvement and Landscaping Show and awarded $250 to one show attendee.
