Thanks to a $500 donation from CU SoCal in Brea, Calif., a $300 grant from the Magnolia Education Enrichment Fund and five bins of donated yarn, an after-school crochet club of students at Walt Disney Elementary School in Anaheim has made and donated blankets, scarves and toiletry bags to Ageless Alliance, an agency for abused and neglected seniors, and caps to Knots of Love, which provides caps for cancer patients.
At the grand opening for Truliant FCU's Whitaker Square location in Winston-Salem, N.C., the Amani Children's Foundation is presented with a $1,000 donation. The foundation raises funds to care for abandoned babies in Africa.
Quorum FCU, Purchase, N.Y., was named one of the Best Companies to Work For in New York for the fifth year in a row. This year, the CU was ranked No. 13 among the top 32 small- and medium-sized employers in the state.
Mid-Atlantic Corporate FCU, Middletown, Pa., is holding fast to its resolution for 2014 to raise money and awareness for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Staff volunteered their time at the CMN Hospitals Telethon, as two employees presented the Corporate's 2013 donation check of $15,908. Other events include a community garden and an egg hunt.
Two Michigan credit unions, North Central Area CU and Northland Area FCU, teamed up to pay their respects at the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall. The two CUs ran the water tent, giving free water for donations to the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, which provides stable housing for area veterans and their families. Combined with $250 donations from each of the credit unions, NMCAA received $642 in total contributions.
