Del-One FCU, Dover, Del., recognized the Corporate Kids Learning Center as the Select Employer Group of the Month. In other news, the credit union held a food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware and donated $2,000 to Caring Hearths Helping Hands Inc.
Altrua CU, Riverside, Calif., was named "Best Credit Union" by readers of The Press Enterprise in its 17th Annual Readers' Choice Awards.
Honor CU, St. Joseph, Mich., made a donation to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department Motorcycle Team to prevent the total elimination of the motorcycle division due to budget cuts.
Kellogg Community FCU, Battle Creek, Mich., has opened a new student-run credit union at Prairieview Elementary School. In other news, the CU sponsored the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region's 2012 Sweepstakes in which a person will win the vehicle of his or her choice valued up to $30,000.
Associated CU, Norcross, Ga., has donated a total of $37,374 to several local charities: Norcross Co-op Ministry, Quinn House and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Greater Atlanta.
CPCU, Somerville, Mass., hosted a Harvest Food Drive to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.
SIU CU, Carbondale, Ill., has earned the "StormReady Supporter" designation from the National Weather Service.
MECU of Baltimore opened its second student-run branch at the Reginald F. Lewis High School for Business and Law the same week that it completed its merger with Mercy Health Services Employees FCU. Separately, the CU provided 163 young adults with financial education during its "Growing Into Wealth" workshop series and also filled an entire truck with toys and other presents for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
Wintrhop FCU, Winthrop, Mass., is sponsoring a Giving Tree to benefit the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Boston.
State Employees' CU, Raleigh, N.C., prepared and shipped 5,000 holiday gift boxes to North Carolina soldiers stationed all over the world. Separately, the CU featured a display of student artwork from Statesville Middle School as part of the CU's Support The Troops campaign, provided $2.4 million 0% interest-free loan for the Echo Ridge Teacher Housing Complex and hosted a job shadowing program for Sanderson High School Students.
St. Anne's Credit Union, River Falls, Mass., sold 94 "Fairy Bears" and raised $475 for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots drive. In other news, the CU also donated nearly 50 blankets, pillows and pillow cases to Steppingstone's First Inn.
Highmark FCU, Rapid City, S.D., operated a concession stand at the monthly flea market at the Mother Butler Center and raised $100 for Volunteers of America's Mommy's Closet program.
Great Lakes CU, North Chicago, Ill., sent volunteers to help out with the "Giving Dinner" hosted by the Greenbelt Cultural Center, which offered a free holiday buffet to 300 low-income and homeless individuals, where coats, hats, gloves and warm clothing that had been collected by GLCU were also distributed.
MidSouth Community FCU made a donation to the Baldwin High School Navy JROTC. Separately, the CU also made donations to the Georgia College Foundation, the Chickfil-A & Habitat for Humanity "Legacy of Lights" event, the United Way of Central Georgia and recognized Kate Wall as Bib County's 2013 Teacher of the Year.
Jeanne D'Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., teamed up with the National Financial Educators Council to bring New England Patriots' Wide Receiver Brandon Lloyd to Lowell High School to help teach financial literacy. In other news, the credit union donated $2,165 to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.
Dover FCU, Dover, Del., participated in the 15th Annual Turkey Round Up program that helps the Food Bank of Delaware collect and distribute turkeys to families in need during the holidays.
The Michigan CU League, Lansing, Mich., presented a $125,884.80 donation from the Michigan credit union community to Children's Miracle Network.
The Minnesota Credit Union Network, St. Paul, Minn., and representatives of its member credit unions participated in a Hike the Hill event to lobby for member business lending legislation reform legislation.
Mobiloil FCU, Beaumont, Texas, donated $1,000 to the Blue Santa program that is run by area police departments and provides gifts to needy children. In other news, the credit union participated in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, with the CU donating $5,000 in memory of former VP-accounting Laura Purkey who died of breast cancer, and members and staff raised an additional $6,000 for the charity, as well.
First Commonwealth FCU, Bethlehem, Penn., sent employees to volunteer at the local PBS television station to answer phones and take pledges during the station's pledge drive. The credit union also sponsors the BizKid$ series that airs on PBS.
Fort Knox FCU, Radcliff, Ky., opened a new branch in Jefferson County, Ky.
