Connex CU, North Haven, Conn., donated $1,017.40 to The Animal Haven. Funds were raised from fees collected by the CU's coin-counting machine.
American 1 CU, Jackson, Mich., adopted 15 families through the AWARE Shelter, the Jackson Interfaith Shelter and local schools. The CU also went shopping for two units stationed in Afghanistan. Additionally, the CU participated in the Random Acts of Community program, offering up to $30 worth of free gas for the first 15 vehicles to come through five different gas stations in the area.
State Employees CU, Raleigh, N.C., sponsored the 2013 Governor's Awards for Excellence. In other news, the CU said its foundation is supporting NC GreenPower, is offering financial education sessions to Pasquotank Correctional Institute inmates who are due to be released soon, made a $1 million grant to SECU Hospice House ofWestern North Carolina and sent care packages to more than 5,000 North Carolina soldiers stationed overseas.
Philadelphia FCU named two local students - Justin Dennis (pictured above) and Jason Chen - the winners of its 2nd Annual Back-to-Savings Art Contest.
Island FCU, Hauppauge, N.Y., opened a new branch in Massapequa. In other news, the CU sponsored the 6th Annual Run for the Warriors, which raised more than $40,000 for the national nonprofit that supports veterans and their families.
Dow Chemical Employees' CU, Midland, Mich., helped clean up almost a mile of the boulevard area in front of the credit union. Separately, the CU raised $3,759 for local charitable and community organizations and nearly $1,700 for Midland Cancer Services. The CU also awarded $15,000 in scholarships to local students.
Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., sponsored the 2013 Holiday Extravaganza Parade in Pontiac, Mich. In other news, the CU was ranked No. 10 in the Detroit Free Press' Top 100 Workplaces.
First Commerce CU, Tallahassee, Fla., presented a check for $5,524 to the Florida State University College of Business which was then matched by FSU President Eric Barron as part of the Power Forward Speaker Series.
Pioneer WV FCU, Charleston, W.V., conducted a food drive via Facebook as part of its participation in"No Shave November." The effort garnered more than 700 non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army.
CPCU, Somerville, Mass., held its 5th Annual Harvest Food Drive to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition. The CU also donated $1,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Alliant CU, Chicago, said its foundation recently held its annual meeting.
American Heritage FCU, Philadelphia, sponsored the Grand Illumination Tree Lighting and Fireworks Symphony, which brought in more than 3,500 pounds of food to be donated to Philabundance and $901 for Children's Hospital. It also awarded $6,500 to one of its members chosen at random, culminating the CU's 65th anniversary celebration and honored two off-duty Philadelphia police officers who saved a 10-year-old child who collapsed at a baseball practice.
St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H., donated $1,000 to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. Separately, the CU awarded a $1,000 grant to the Robies Country Store Historic Preservation Corporation.
UMassFive College FCU, Hadley, Mass., has donated the third police bicycle, bringing to a close its promise to help renew the Three-College Campus Police Department's aging fleet with three new bikes.
Align CU, Lowell, Mass., sponsored the "Project Helping Hands" Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Manolis Family Foundation.
Holy Rosary Credit Union gave donations totaling $15,000 to 20 local charities. Separately, the CU teamed up with Bernier Insurance to donate non-perishable food and other items from its 6th Annual Food Drive to the SHARE Fund Inc.
Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., teamed up with the Newaygo County Regional Educational Service Agency to open a studentrun branch.
Freedom CU, Warminster, Pa., participated in the 53rd Annual Hatboro Holiday Parade. Separately, the CU also hosted photo sessions with Santa at two of its branches and awarded Lakeview Elementary Teacher Christie Crispin $500 for being voted Teacher of the Month.
Solarity CU, Yakima, Wash., donated $21,597 to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital along with a toy-filled Radio Flyer Wagon, which will be used to move children through the hospital.
