Los Angeles FCU awarded $1,000 checks to the winners of its Jack C. Mathews college scholarship competition during a recent desert reception at the CU's corporate office in Glendale, Calif.
CASE CU, Lansing, Mich., awarded $10,000 in scholarships to seven local students during its annual meeting in June. Winners were chosen based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need and more.
Postal CU, Woodbury, Minn., donated $1,500 to Meals on Wheels in recognition of the CU's 10 years partnering with the group to provide nutritious meals and friendly smiles to disabled and elderly residents in the North St. Paul area.
Neighbors CU, St. Louis, Mo., hosted an investment seminar explaining the history of investing and investment options, as well as a discussion of retirement savings and post-retirement investing. Guests received free educational materials and two won gift cards.

A team from Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., climbed Mt. Rubidoux as part of a national event called "Climb to Cure Duchenne." The 48-member team from Altura raised more than $3,000 to fight Duchenne, a rare and lethal form of muscular dystrophy.
Ocala Community CU, Ocala, Fla., sponsored a luncheon for Emerging Leaders of Ocala, which included a tour of the Marion County Emergency Operations Center. OCCU president and CEO Steve Nazaruk can be seen here with ELO members seated behind him.
Staff from First Capital FCU, York, Penn., took part in the United Way Day of Action, helping out by painting the Crispus Attucks home in York.
Service 1 FCU, Muskegon, Mich., participated in the Annual Muskegon Walk for Diabetes in June. This was the seventh year the CU has participated, and this year the CU raised nearly $6,500 to assist residents in Muskegon suffering from diabetic-related illnesses.
Staff and volunteers from Allied Healthcare FCU, Long Beach, Calif., turned out to support the Long Beach Unity Walk and Community Hospital of Long Beach's Golf Classic during the first weekend of June.
CPCU, Somerville, Mass., established a partnership with Community Cooks and formed an employee-based cooking team to cook meals each month for ShortStop, a community-based residence and transitional house for homeless young adults. The CU's cooking team consists of ten cooks providing for 12 young adults.
LAFCU, Lansing, Mich., held an event to celebrate area autoworkers after the Cadillac ATS being named 2013 North American Car of the Year. The event included remarks from U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). LAFCU was originally founded as an autoworkers credit union.
The Northwest FCU Foundation, Herndon, Va., awarded $20,000 in grants this summer to its four business partnership schools, including Louise Archer elementary School, Dranesville Elementary School, Rachel Carson Middle School and Herndon High School. The grants will be used for advancing school technologies and providing professional development opportunities for teachers and staff.
Kevin Melvin, a member at LBS Financial CU, Long Beach, Calif., won a $1,000 scholarship from the CU to help pay for his studies this fall at Bates College, where he plans to pursue a degree in Japanese and International Business.
Fort Bragg FCU, Fayetteville, N.C., presented a $7,000 check to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center. The funds were a portion of the proceeds from the CU's 19th annual Charity Golf Tournament, which was held in May and raised $14,000. The other $7,000 was donated to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C.
A team from Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., participated in Relay For Life recently at Pierce Middle School, which drew more than 430 participants and 33 teams, collecting $160,000 for cancer research.

Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., awarded $500 donations to three local charities, including the Judson Center of Royal Oak, Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center and Salon and Kids Kicking Cancer of Detroit.
Holy Rosary CU, Rochester, N.H., awarded five $1,000 scholarships and ten $500 scholarships to 15 high school graduates and current college students.
Public Service CU, Romulus, Mich., awarded $1,000 scholarships to 10 students eight of whom pose above with big checks.
