Texas Trust CU, Mansfield, Texas, said its Spirit Debit Reward program has generated $520,213 for local schools from August 2011 through March 2014. Each participating school has a custom-designed debit card, and they receive 15 cents each time their school's Spirit Debit Reward card is used. Separately, the Texas Trust Youth Advisory Council held a car wash that raised $700 for the Arlington Fire Department's Random Acts of Kindness charity.

Signal Financial FCU sponsored a paper shredding event at its headquarters in Kensington, Md., in conjunction with Earth Week. During the event 6,120 lbs. of paper was shredded, along with 24 hard drives. Also, some 224 lbs. of cardboard was recycled, and 2,878 lbs. of digital media (copiers, phones, audio equipment, cable boxes, modems, CDs, floppies and more) was shredded or recycled.

In its 15th year of fundraising for Children's Hospital Boston through the Boston Marathon, Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., provided the customized Top End OSR racing chair used by Andy Martin, Jr., a former patient. Hanscom FCU raised $31,000 for the hospital. In addition, the CU hosted an event for the financial literacy program CU4 Reality at Hanscom AFB, and it contributed 3,607 books to the Massachusetts CU League's statewide book drive. Finally, a volunteer group of Hanscom FCU staff, family and members visited Fisher House Boston and prepared a meal for families of veterans being treated in the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System. Hanscom FCU recently celebrated a major milestone with its 60th annual meeting. The CU awarded $12,000 in scholarships, with $1,500 awards going to six members beginning their college careers and two from a pair of local Air Force Junior ROTC units.
