Highmark FCU, Rapid City, S.D., held class tours of its branch for local students during National Credit Union Youth Week.
Achieva CU, Largo, Fla., cut the ribbon on its newest branch in Sarasota at the Sarasota County Technical Institute.
Charlotte Metro CU, Charlotte, N.C., commissioned local artist Sharon Dowell to create an original work of art to be used in its lobby, as well as a limited edition poster that was given to members at its annual meeting.
MAX CU teamed up with Montgomery Clean City Commission to host the 2013 Funky Junk Art Contest in which all art must be composed entirely of used and/or recycled materials. In other news, the CU awarded $5,000 scholarships to 10 local students.
Filer CU, Manistee, Mich., sponsored a team in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodgeball Tournament that raised a total of $5,000 for Special Olympics.
Westport FCU, Westport, Mass., encouraged employees to wear Boston-themed clothing as part of a dress-down charity day that raised about $500 for The One Fund-Boston.
Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., held 20 different events throughout the month of April, including a number of giveaways-including bike helmets, small trees to plant and more. Separately, the CU participated in a panel discussion of political activism, donated $350 to Oakland University's women's basketball team as part of its "Varsity Sports Smackdown" promotion and sponsored the phone bank for the WDVD 96.3 Cares for Kids Radiothon, which raised more than $152,0000 for Beaumont Health Systems and Children's Miracle Network.
BMI FCU, Dublin, Ohio, awarded four $2,000 scholarships to local students.
Ent FCU, Colorado Springs, Colo., challenged the Visual Arts Department at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to design a new mural for display in the CU's service center located on campus. In other news, the CU awarded a total of $51,000 disbursed among 18 regional organizations through its Youth Endowment Series.
Pelican State CU, Baton Rouge, La., celebrated the grand opening of its first Financial Resource Center at the Volunteers of American campus, which is located in an underserved area of Shreveport, La. In other news, the CU granted $500 scholarships to 12 local students.
Consumer CU, Kalamazoo, Mich., participated in several area Relay for Life events for the American Cancer Society. Separately, the CU awarded scholarships to 20 students representing 13 local high schools.
Webster First FCU, Worcester, Mass., donated $5,000 to the 10th Annual Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K Road Race To Cure ALS.
People's CU, Middletown, R.I., recognized Mount Hope High School students for completion of the Rhode Island Financial Scholars program.
A+ FCU, Austin, Texas, awarded $2,000 to Crystle Castro and Brooke Deitrick as the winners of the Riverboat Savings Challenge. Separately, the credit union is hosting an eight-month long Member Appreciation Celebration.
Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore., offered a special session on financial literacy for third-grade students at Vestal School.
Securityplus FCU, Baltimore, Md., awarded its Woodlawn branch for winning challenge that was presented to all eight branches to meet an extremely aggressive loan growth goal, with the winning branch earning lunch served by CEO Brett Noll.
Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., was the presenting sponsor for the 31st Annual Hunger Walk, which helped raise more than $50,000 for the Lighthouse of Oakland County's year-round food pantry. Separately the CU also reported that it won the Michigan CU League Legislative Action Fund's President's Award and Gold Star Award for its political fundraising efforts, sponsored the Let's Move Festival of Races, participated in the Michigan league's 10th Annual Financial Literacy Legislative Challenge, won the Corp! DiSciTech Award and sponsored the Arthritis Foundation Walk at the Detroit Zoo.
Eagle Community CU, Lake Forest, Calif., supported the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, teaming up with CO-OP Financial Services to provide more than 1 million blue food bags for the mail carriers to distribute in the local Santa Ana Postal District.
Security Service FCU, San Antonio, awarded a total of $20,000 in scholarships to 20 local students. In other news, the CU also donated $10,000 to People Helping People and $10,000 to the International Women's Board.
Greater TEXAS FCU, Bastrop, Texas, awarded $500 scholarships to four area students.
