United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., won the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce Silver Stake Award in recognition of the CU's partnership with Talari Networks.
State Employees CU, Raleigh, N.C., has committed to providing $240,000 over the next four years to the SECC Giving Guide. In other news, the CU awarded $50,000 to four college teams as winners of the the CU's first "Emerging Issues Prize for Innovation." SECU also took out an ad on Valentine's Day to thank school employees throughout the state.
Meriwest CU, San Jose, Calif., sponsored a $25,000 FHLB Affordable Housing Grant for the Atta Family to complete financing on their home built by Habitat for Humanity. In other news, the CU awarded a total of $3,350 shared among eight winners of the CU's annual essay competition for local students. Meriwest also sent volunteers to help sort 23,000 pounds of oranges for Second Harvest foodbank.
Altura CU, Indio, Calif., awarded $500 to Geronimo Cota as part of the CU's "Better Ways To Win" debit card promotion.
The Nebraska CU League, Lincoln, Neb., awarded the $25,000 Save to Wn grand prize to Ronald Hibbert of Members Own CU.
Metro CU, Peabody, Mass., donated $500 worth of blankets and another $500 in cash to Citizens for Adequate Housing.
Scott CU, Edwardsville, Ill., donated $3,000 to Belle-Clair Speedway. In other news, the CU donated $500 to Waterloo Millers Baseball Club.
ORNL FCU, Oak Ridge, Tenn., collected thousands of dollars in electronics and household goods to be donated to Girls Inc., as part of the Credit Union Magic Minute Loyalty Dash Sweepstakes sponsored by PSCU.
MidSouth Community FCU, Macon, Ga., hosted classes from the Early Learning Center at the CU's Milledgeville, Ga.-based branch, which was celebrating its 100th day of business. Separately, the recently held its 78th annual meeting, made donations to United Way and Rooms from the Heart.
The Iowa CU League, Des Moines, held a congressional candidate forum featuring seven of the nine announced candidates for the First Congressional District of Iowa.
Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., donated more than $1,700 to the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.
St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H., donated $2,500 to The Front Door Agency. Separately, the CU was selected as a winner of the New Hampshire Business Review's 2014 BOB Awards.
SAC FCU, Bellevue, Neb., raised $2,000 for the At Ease Program.
RTN FCU, Waltham, Mass., collected 35 blankets for the Massachusetts Coaltion for the Homeless as part of the Massachusetts CU League's blanket drive.
Summit CU, Madison, Wis., awarded $10,000 to Stacey and Brandon Steinmetz as the winners of the CU's "Project Money" competition.
Franklin Mint FCU, Broomall, Pa., donated $25,000 to Mercy Health System as part of its four-year, $100,000 pledge to the hospital group.
AMOCO FCU, Texas City, Texas, held a "Cupid's Ball" for its Platinum Club, which serves members who are 55 and older. More than 140 Platinum Club members attended the event. Days later, the CU hosted its 77th annual meeting.
Los Angeles FCU donated bikes, dolls and toys to the Glendale Fire Department's Spark of Love Toy Drive.
CFCU Community CU, Ithaca, N.Y., gave $5,000 to the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County I support of its Open Doors Scholarship Program. The CU also supported Cornell Athletics by giving away reusable mugs at Cornell's "Go Green" event.
Neighbors CU, St. Louis, raised $1,150 for the ALS Association through a special dress-down-for-donations day in honor of the CU's own Larry Henges, a commercial business development officer at Neighbors, who was recently diagnosed with ALS.
