Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich., awarded a complete room makeover to Elizabeth DaFoe, who also received $1,000 toward her MSUFCU VISA credit card. Runners up won various amounts toward their MSUFCU VISA credit cards, including $1,000 to Kelly Patterson, $1,000 to Jessica McNally, $750 to Marie Rea, $500 to Jenelle Schneider and $250 to Dereck Wellspeigel.
OMNI Community CU, Battle Creek, Mich., awarded a $1,400 grant to the Community Action Agency of South Central Michigan.
Oregon Community CU, Eugene, Ore., sent employees to help out with the KOOL Cares for Kids Radiothon, which raised more than $55,000 for Children's Miracle Network.
Pee Dee FCU, Florence, S.C., issued grants of $250 to 10 area teachers.
Neighborhood CU, Dallas, broke ground on what will be its first branch to be located in Coppell, Texas.
United Heritage CU, Austin, said 35 of its employees gave a total of 77 hours of their time to participate in Trudy's Bowl for Kids and raised $3,223 from individuals and another $1,500 from the CU and United Heritage Charity Foundation, with all funds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.
SAFE CU, Sacramento, Calif., sent 10 employeesincluding CEO Henry Wirz [shown above] to help raise $14,000 for Sacramento's PBS TV station KVIE.
Valley First CU, Penticton, B.C., marked the grand opening of its new RiverBend branch and also rebranded the Valley First Insurance office.
Jeanne D'Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., raised more than $30,000 for its We Share A Common Thread Foundation, which will be used to support a variety of local charities.
AERO FCU, Peoria, Ariz., held its 56th Annual Meeting, which included a variety of games and activities for members of all ages. During the meeting, the CU honored Loren De Well for her 53 years of volunteer service at AERO FCU.
Suffolk FCU, Medford, N.Y., awarded a $100 Visa gift card to Eric Austin as part of a promotion for its e-statement service.
Robins FCU, Warner Robins, Ga., donated $1,000 to Gray Station Better Hometowns to sponsor the Daylily Festival.
Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., sponsored the celebratory dinner for the most recent graduating class of the Airman Leadership School. The CU has a long-standing tradition of sponsoring these graduation dinners, but this one was special, as the winner of the John L. Levitow Award was Senior Airman Francisco Aguilar, who is also the fiancee of Hanscom FCU Loan File Document Specialist Jennifer Fick. Separately, Hanscom staff and family members prepared a meal at Fisher House Boston for famlies of veterans being treated in the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System.
United Labor CU, Kansas City, Mo., collected more than 250 pounds of goods that were packaged up and sent as care packages to Greg Davison, a CU volunteer who is also a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees. Davison, who serves on the CU's credit committee, has been deployed to Afghanistan. In other news, the CU hosted the 5th Annual Union Retiree Financial Forum aimed at educating retired and soon-to-be-retired local union members on a variety of financial issues.
St. Helens Federal Community CU helped raise more than $7,000 for local charities through its 2012 CU 4 A Cause campaign. The money was distributed among the Amanie Center, Columbia Pacific Food Bank and the American Cancer Society.
Christian Community CU, San Dimas, Calif., hosted the Tiger Cub Scout Pack 423 as part of the scouts' Making Change and Banking Go See It program.
Altura CU, Riverside, Calif., sponsored a basketball game for Kids Campaign.
Hudson River Community CU, Troy, N.Y., Saratoga's Community FCU, Saratoga, N.Y. and TCT FCU, Ballston Spa, N.Y., teamed up to raise more than $4,000 for pediatric programs at four area hospitals during the 2012 Credit Unions Care for Kids Campaign.
