Texas Dow Employees CU, Lake Jackson, Texas, donated $1,120 to the Houston SPCA and another $1,520 to Adopt-A-Pet of Victoria. In other news, the CU has launched a new financial blog "Talk With TDECU."
Affinity FCU, Edison, N.J., teamed up with May Street Surgi-center and CHI Healthy Spirit at Saint Clare's to host free blood pressure screenings at a couple of the CU's branches.
Vantage CU, St. Louis, awarded a $500 VISA gift card to Terrence Shofner as part of the CU's new Bridgeton branch grand opening. The CU also gave away an Apple iPad to Michael Geerlof at that same event.
United FCU, St. Joseph, Mich., donated $10,000 to Girls on the Run. Separately, the CU also donated $1,000 to the VA Women Veteran's Color Guard and won the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce Platinum Stake Award.
Shell FCU, Deer Park, Texas, gave away a red Camaro and three cash prizes of $7,000, $5,000 and $2,000 at its 75th Anniversary celebration. Separately, the credit union awarded the 2012 Member Volunteer of the Year award to Don Brown, who also won the honor last year.
UMassFive College FCU, Hadley, Mass., hosted a cold-weather clothing drive to benefit the Amherst and Northampton Survival Centers, collecting more than 140 coats, jackets, gloves, blankets, scarves and sweaters.
NuVision FCU, Huntington Beach, Calif., said VP-Marketing & Public Relations LJ Tarman won special recognition from the U.S. Congress for her outstanding leadership and community outreach efforts on behalf of the credit union.
State Employees CU, Raleigh, N.C., is investing $25 million in a Charitable Lead Trust created by MEMBERS Trust Company that will generate an approximate contribution of $125,000 each for the National Credit Union Foundation and the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. In other news, the credit union made the first of four $200,000 annual grants supporting the State Employees Credit Union Emerging Issues Prize for Innovation through the Institute for Emerging Issues at North Carolina State University.
American 1 CU, Jackson, Mich., sponsored the American 1 Paws & Claws Pet Expo, which included a Cutest Pet Photo Contest, the winner of which, "Roger," is shown above. The event raised $1,740 for the Cascades Humane Society, which American 1 then rounded up to an even $2,000 total donation. In other news, the CU also donated $100 to Domestic Harmony, $100 to King's Kupboard, $600 to Junior Achievement and $700 for Allegiance Hospice.
Service CU said 250 of its employees are participating in the Service CU Fitness Challenge benefiting the AmericanHeart Association. Employees were also encouraged to participate in National Wear Red Day in support of the American Heart Association, as well.
Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., sponsored the College Ice Carving Competition at the 31st Annual Plymouth Ice Festival. Separately, the CU also sponsored the 9th Annual Utica Ice Festival.
Central Missouri Community CU, Warrensburg, Mo. Donated $4,500 to Nathan's Quest Childhood Cancer Fund.
Gleaners Community Food Bank at the CU's 4th Annual Rock 'n' Roller Skate Party.
Two Missouri credit unionsSt. Louis Community CU and First Missouri CUwere awarded $2 million in new affordable housing grants. U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay was on hand to present the awards.
Maine Credit Union League, Portland, Maine, reported that the Main Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger raised $471,7e44.42, a new record for the annual fundraising effort.
MidSouth Community FCU, Macon, Ga., made a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia.
The Battle Creek Chapter of Credit Unions, Battle Creek, Mich., donated $1,5000 to the Food Bank of South Central Michigan. Participating CUs include: Battle Creek Area Community FCU, Grand Trunk Battle Creek EFCU, KALSEE CU, Kellogg Community FCU, Marshall Community CU, OMNI Community CU, Post Community CU and United Educational CU.
Altrua CU, Riverside, Calif., volunteered 11 employees to serve as proctors during the "Super Quiz" portion of the Riverside County Academic Decathlon. In other news, the CU has created a fund to assist the family of San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputy Jeremiah MacKay, who was killed in a shootout.
Bright Star CU, Sunrise, Fla., sponsored the Young at Art Children's Museum Love Fest Valentine's Day celebration.
Jeanne D'Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., is displaying artwork by Wang Middle School students. In other news, the CU announcedBrigid's Crossing was the $1,500 winner of its "Give a Click" campaign at the weshareacommonthread.org website.
