Keeping the homeless warm

Thirty Massachusetts credit unions and the Cooperative CU Association donated 1,035 blankets and thousands of warm clothing items to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and more than 25 social-service agencies across the Commonwealth.

Firefly's grand opening

Burnsville, Minn.-based Firefly CU hosted a week of grand opening festivities at its newest branch, located at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, Minn. Firefly also held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first student-run branch in its 90-year history at Burnsville High School.

Wescom CU, Pasadena, Calif., helped Southern Californians spring forward with its third annual Daylight Saving Time event in association with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Beverage tabs were paid by Wescom, up to $15 per transaction until $2,000-worth of bills were paid for at each of 21 designated locations.

Radiothon

Members Exchange CU, Ridgeland, Miss., partnered with Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital to host a Miracle Workers Coin Drive as a kickoff event to the annual Mississippi Miracles Radiothon. The CU collected $2,500, while the three-day Radiothon event raised $504,360.

Hanscom FCU gets Dora Maxwell recognition

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., received the national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for its work supporting veterans. The CU partnered with the staff at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Mass., on several initiatives.
