Hanscom
Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., contributed 3,255 books to the Cooperative Credit Union Association's annual children's book drive.
Michigan First
Michigan First CU, Lathrup Village, Mich., is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Founded in 1926 as Detroit Teachers CU, it became the largest teachers' credit union in the world and, 11 years later, was named the largest credit union in the worlda title it held until the 1960s.
Los Angeles
To help with the aftermath of the Ecuador earthquake that devastated 26 credit unions, Los Angeles FCU donated $10,000 to the World Council of Credit Unions. In 2015, LAFCU also donated $10,000 to World Council to assist credit unions affected by the Nepal earthquake.
Greenville
Greenville FCU, Greenville, S.C., plans to launch a student-run branch inside Greenville Senior High School during the 2016-2017 school year.
Franklin Mint
In Broomall, Pa., Mike Berenstain, author, illustrator and president of Berenstain Enterprises, accepted the prestigious Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Partners in Education 2016 Financial Literacy Advocate award. The CU also awarded $1,500 checks to 10 high school seniors for winning the John D. Unangst Scholarship.
APG
APG FCU, Aberdeen, Md., was named "Outstanding Organization" in the 2016 Financial Education and Capabilities Awards by the Maryland Council on Economic Education and the Maryland State Department of Education.
Fibre
In Longview, Wash., Fibre FCU member Joyce Becker won $5,000 through the Save to Win certificate program.
South Carolina
South Carolina FCU, N. Charleston, S.C., awarded $10,000 in scholarships to eight area students.
Southeastern
For the second year in a row, Southeastern CU, Valdosta, Ga., awarded five Valdosta and Lowndes County schools with $1,000 grants, totaling $5,000, as part of its Community Partners in Education program.
Affinity Plus
In an effort to prepare first-time homebuyers with the information and tools needed to purchase their first home, St. Paul, Minn.-based Affinity Plus FCU has been hosting free first-time homebuyer seminars in local branch communities throughout Minnesota.
