New Digs: Credit Unions in the Community

MAX CU, Montgomery, Ala., celebrated its expansion into Pike County with a groundbreaking at the branch construction site. With lobby and drive-thru service, the branch will serve people in Troy, Ala., as well as surrounding Pike County communities.
Community 1st CU, Ottumwa, Iowa, welcomed Miriam De Dios, CEO of Hispanic consumer strategy firm Coopera, as the CU became the first credit union in Iowa to receive the Juntos Avanzamos designation (Spanish for Together We Advance).
Elevations CU, Boulder, Colo., celebrated Colorado Gov. Hickenloopers Elevations Credit Union Day Proclamation, which recognized the credit union having been named one of the winners of the 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (and the states only CU winner).
North Jersey FCU, Totowa, N.J., celebrated its 80th anniversary of serving its members and the community.
Veridian CU, Waterloo, Iowa, drew record attendance and documents to its free Community Shred Day. An estimated 2,578 people shredded 64,442 lbs. of private documents, which will be recycled into commercial grade paper products, saving an estimated 805 trees.
Houston-based First Service CU embarked on the next phase of its growth strategy with the purchase of a six-story building in the West Houston Energy Corridor as its new headquarters. First Service will occupy 35,000 square feet of the building.
St. Marys Bank, Manchester, N.H., the nations first credit union, was recognized as one of New Hampshires top 10 housing lenders of 2015 by New Hampshire Housing.
Joliet, Ill.-based NuMark CU named the winners of prizes given away during the CUs New Lenox branch grand opening event: Jerry Zurawski won $1,000, Gene Orrico won a gas grill, Charles Owen of Minooka a $100 gas card, Jorretta Raymond a fireproof document chest.
Westbury, N.Y.-based NEFCU kicked off its spring and summer program of community clean-ups and environmental programs with 25 volunteers in Central Islip at the Teatro Yerbabruja Performing Arts Center.
Affinity Plus FCU, St. Paul, Minn., opened a new branch in Baxter. The CU has been serving the community since 1971, when the first branch was located in a small office at the State Hospital. Separately, the CU helped sponsor the 4th-annual Lake Alice 100, a community bike ride.
