Stationary Cycling: Credit Unions in the Community

Bethpage FCU, Bethpage, N.Y., hosted a unique Cycle for Community fundraising event. More than 50 YMCA and Bethpage employees participated in a 90-minute spin relay in the parking lot of the CU's headquarters. Nearly $12,000 was raised for the YMCA of Long Island.
The We Promise Foundation, the charitable arm of Chartway FCU, Virginia Beach, Va., and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community CU, received a distinguished award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah.
First Capital FCU, York, Pa., awarded $1,000 to two winners of the 2016 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarship. Separately, a team from the CU participated in the 28thAnnual Office Olympix event to benefit Easter Seals Western and Central Pennsylvania.
Genisys CU, Auburn Hills, Mich., presented its Walk for Warmth donation check to the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency. Genisys has sponsored the Walk for Warmth for more than 20 years.
Firefly CU, Burnsville, Minn., plans to open an in-school branch at Burnsville Senior High School during the 2016-17 school year. Not only will BSHS students staff the upcoming location, they have been included in decisions regarding the planning of the branch.
DEXSTA FCU, Wilmington, Del., held a free community Shred-a-Thon at its Prices Corner branch. Radio station WJBR had a live broadcast during the event.
Great Lakes CU, Bannockburn, Ill., visited a local Pizza Mia restaurant and performed 30 random acts of kindness, buying 30 pizzas for Pizza Mia customers. Country radio station 98.3 WCCQ was broadcasting live and gave a shout-out to GLCU for conducting these acts of kindness.
John Buckley, president/CEO of Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., read the Coindexter Jr book The Candy and the Coinbot to second grade students at several local schools. The popular book introduces children to the fundamental concepts of money management.
Catholic FCU, Saginaw, Mich., was awarded a 2016 Healthy Workplace Award for its commitment to healthy living by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
TruMark Financial CU, Trevose, Pa., sponsored a soccer clinic for 100 students from Philadelphia's Our Lady of Calvary School at Talen Energy Stadium, home of the Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union. Students took to the field with Philadelphia Union coaches, who offered training advice and coaching.
