Supporting the Hawk Walk: Credit Unions in the Community

America First
America First CU, Riverdale, Utah, strolled in support of cancer awareness alongside West Haven Elementary at the 10th annual West Haven Elementary Hawk Walk. The CU donated nearly $6,000. Separately, AFCU opened its newest branch in the Park City area. Jeremy Ranch is the fourth branch to open in 2016, for a total of 117 branch locations in Utah and Nevada.
United Southeast
United Southeast FCU, Bristol, Tenn., announced the winners of its annual scholarships. Five high school seniors received $1,000 each toward the higher education institution of their choice.
PenFed
Nearly 9,000 middle school students have learned lessons this year that will help them finance cars and balance their budgets later in life, thanks to an educational branch of Alexandria, Va.-based PenFed CU at Marylands first Junior Achievement Finance Park.
AOD
The board and management team of AOD FCU, Bynum, Ala., were present at the groundbreaking on a new home for U.S. Army Sergeant 1st Class Aaron Causey, who was injured on Sept. 7, 2011 while serving his third deployment to the Middle East. He lost both of his legs above the knee, two fingers, and has had multiple other injuries.
Pelican State
Pelican State CU, Baton Rouge, La., granted $500 scholarship awards to 12 college-bound Pelican members in its branch communities across the state of Louisiana.
TDECU
Janie Schwartz-Shaw, compliance officer for TDECU, Lake Jackson, Texas, coordinated an organization-wide shoe drive to support the Brazoria County SPCA Shoes for Shelter fundraiser, and encouraged members, employees and the public to donate gently-used shoes.
St Annes
Ten employees of St. Annes CU, Fall River, Mass., and their families volunteered at the Sacred Heart food pantry and soup kitchen at St. Bernadettes Parish. The volunteers helped sort and distribute pantry items, then served a hot meal to all visitors of the soup kitchen.
Homefield
Homefield CU, North Grafton, Mass., participated in the Cooperative Credit Union Associations Childrens Book Drive. Some 35 Massachusetts CUs supported the annual drive through the Social Responsibility Committee.
Northwest
Northwest FCU, Herndon, Va., hosted the Irish League of Credit Unions in partnership with the Virginia CU League and World Council of Credit Unions. The ILCU visited Northwest to learn about the credit unions mortgage lending program, specifically its best business practices.
Fox Communities
Fox Communities CU, Appleton, Wis., is sponsoring a scoreboard at one of four baseball diamonds, as the Manitowoc Youth Baseball Association will be opening a new baseball/softball complex in spring 2017.
