Breast cancer awareness fundraiser

Employees of Christian Community CU, San Dimas, Calif., held their 17th annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser, raising $891. Employees had the option to donate to Susan G. Komen's Be More Than Pink or Lee National Denim Day, supporting the American Cancer Society. A donation of $5 or more meant wearing jeans, sneakers, and/or pink T-shirts to work.

Roundtable discussion

PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., hosted the first of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s Middle Class Task Force regional roundtable discussions, which were held to gain feedback and policy recommendations to improve the lives of Pennsylvania’s middle class workers and their families.

Donation distribution

Jeanne D’Arc CU, Lowell, Mass., distributed the first donations from the Steve Jones Legacy Fund to several recipients: A Bed For Every Child, Greater Lowell YMCA, Town of Chelmsford Scholarship Committee, My Father’s House, Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Chelmsford Youth Basketball League, Catie’s Closet, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lowell. Jones, a 20-year veteran of the CU, passed away in 2016.

The Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation, Hanscom AFB, Mass., was among the major sponsors of the Home Base Mission: Gratitude concert. The event benefitted the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base program.

Scholarships awarded

In Freehold, N.J., First Financial FCU’s Foundation awarded $500 scholarships to four students, including Cassidy Sabins of Spring Lake Heights, who graduated from Manasquan High School and is currently attending the University of Tampa in Florida.

Donor registry drive

BlueOx CU, Battle Creek, Mich., hosted bone marrow and organ, eye and tissue donor registry drives at each of its branches. In conjunction with the Be the Match and Gift of Life organizations, BlueOx registered individuals in the Gift of Life registry and the Be the Match bone marrow registry via a quick process that included the gathering of a cheek swab sample.
