3Q Results' Positives Lift Markets

The KBW Bank Index rose 3.35% Thursday as several banking companies reported positive trends within their third-quarter results.

Among the larger companies that reported Thursday were PNC Financial Services Group Inc., whose stock rose 12.7%; SunTrust Banks Inc., up 5.3%; Fifth Third Bancorp, 6.8%, and Huntington Bancshares Inc., 11 cents a share, to $4.42.

Other gainers included JPMorgan Chase & Co., up 2.4%; Bank of America Corp., 0.1%; Wells Fargo & Co., 4.4%; U.S. Bancorp, 3.8%, and Citigroup Inc., 4 cents, to $4.46 a share.

Among the regional banking companies, BB&T Corp. rose 3.1%; Capital One Financial Corp., 4.6%; Comerica Inc., 4.7%; Regions Financial Corp., 1.8%; Zions Bancorp., 4%; Marshall & Ilsley Corp., 1.5%; First Horizon National Corp., 2.7%; KeyCorp, 5.6%; M&T Bank Corp., 4.1%, and Associated Banc-Corp, 4.3%.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.33%, and the Standard & Poor's 500 index, 1.06%.
