ANZ Bank Ltd. has launched the ANZ Rugby World Cup MasterCard credit card — New Zealand's first contactless credit card.
Holders of the card, which adheres to the EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications, may use the contactless function when paying less than $62 at terminals in the country designed to accept contactless cards.
The card was unveiled Monday.
The first such terminals were installed in Auckland's Eden Park and Wellington's Westpac Stadium, which are venues for the Rugby World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in September 2011, according to the bank.
Additional terminals will soon be deployed at more stadiums and at specific retailers near them.
ANZ also plans eventually to introduce the technology at more retailers throughout the country.
The issuer charges cardholders $73 per year for the card, which comes with a $3,859 credit limit.
