AppNinjas Inc. said it now offers a hardware add-on for the iPhone called the Credit Card Swiper.
Credit Card Swiper is a white-label system available to banks and independent sales organizations to offer their clients to allow payments to be made through an iPhone by swiping a card.
AppNinjas also offers an app that allows users to accept card payments by typing in card details. It said that using the hardware Swiper saves merchants money and time over using the software alone. The hardware add-on saves banks and ISOs "the expense, hassle and compliance reviews of … [developing] their own solution," John Waldron, AppNinjas' chief executive, said in a press release Tuesday.
Other companies also allow merchants to accept payments through their phones by swiping a card. VeriFone Systems Inc. offers an add-on called PayWare Mobile, and Square Inc. offers a card reader that plugs into the phone's audio jack.
