Assurant Inc., a New York company that sells specialty insurance and insurance-related products and services, announced the hiring Tuesday of Stephen W. Gauster from Prudential Financial Inc. to be a senior vice president and chief corporate counsel.
Mr. Gauster, 38, is to report to Bart Schwartz, an executive vice president and the chief legal officer, and is to run Assurant's public company legal work, its risk management function, and its corporate law practice group.
Mr. Gauster was a vice president, corporate counsel, and assistant secretary at Prudential, which is based in Newark, N.J., and general counsel and secretary of Prudential Funding LLC.
Before that, he was an associate in the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, where he represented underwriters and issuers in public and private financings and securities law and corporate matters.
Assurant has more than $26 billion of assets and $8 billion of annual revenue.
