ATM Hunter App Gets Android Version

MasterCard Inc. has launched a version of its ATM Hunter mobile applications for smartphones that run Google Inc.'s Android operating system.

The app, which allows cardholders to locate nearby automated teller machines using the smartphone's location features, was originally launched on Apple Inc.'s iPhone in 2009. A version for Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry came out in early 2010.

"With the success of this application on both the iPhone and BlackBerry, it is a natural progression to bring it to the active Android user base as well," Cheryl Guerin, MasterCard's senior vice president of global digital marketing, said in a press release Wednesday.

The ATM Hunter app includes a feature to help MasterCard update its ATM directory by letting consumers report malfunctioning or missing ATMs.
