Barclays Unit Hires Regional Chief

Barclays Wealth on Monday announced that it appointed banking veteran David Lewis as managing director and head of its Americas banking unit, a new position.

Lewis has more than 20 years of banking experience, most recently as head of banking products in the Americas at UBS AG. He has also been the president and chief executive of ING Mortgage, as well as the chief marketing and information technology officer at ING Direct, units of ING Group NV.

Lewis will be responsible for the expansion of the Barclays PLC unit's regional banking products and services — such as cash management, credit and debit cards, savings accounts and other programs.

Barclays Wealth, which focuses on high-net-worth clients, has 14 offices in the Americas.

Private banks have recently been turning to other sectors outside of traditional wealth management roles for recruitment as clients demand more sophisticated wealth management and investment strategy.
