BB&T Corp. has tapped Cynthia Williams, its chief communications officer, to run corporate branding, product marketing and advertising.
The Winston-Salem, N.C., banking company said Tuesday that Williams will also continue serving in her current role.
Steve Wiggs, BB&T's chief marketing officer and lending group manager, praised Williams' performance over the last two years as chief communications officer.
"In the last two years, she has built a strategic, corporate communications function," Wiggs said in a press release. "In her new role, she will use her deep banking knowledge to further integrate our product marketing, advertising and communications functions as we continue to grow."
BB&T named Williams an executive vice president in 2010 and chief communications officer in 2009.
Her career has included stints working in corporate financial controls, auditing and regional banking for BB&T; First Virginia Banks, which BB&T bought in 2003; and accounting firm KPMG LLP.
Women of Color magazine included Williams in its "Most Powerful Women in Finance" feature in 2010.
