BB&T Insurance Buying Georgia Agency

BB&T Insurance Services of Raleigh has agreed to buy Ott & Co., an employee benefits insurance brokerage in Alpharetta, Ga.

Founded in 1978, Ott & Co. provides employee benefits to more than 400 corporate clients.

BB&T Insurance plans to merge Ott with the Alpharetta agency BB&T-Huffines Russell. It has already merged the insurance agency Sidney O. Smith Inc., which it bought in November, with BB&T-Huffines Russell.

Ott's 13 employees would join BB&T.

BB&T Insurance Services, a subsidiary of the $130.8 billion-asset BB&T Corp. of Winston-Salem, N.C., operates 84 insurance agencies in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, and Kentucky. The Ott deal, which is expected to close in early January, was announced Thursday. The price was not disclosed.
