BlackRock Hires Advisory Unit Chief

BlackRock Inc. announced that it has hired Craig Phillips to run its financial markets advisory group.

Mr. Phillips is to work in a unit that helps institutional clients like pension funds manage their capital markets exposure, the company said Thursday.

He has worked in the global asset-backed financial markets for more than 30 years. Most recently, he was a managing member at Ptarmigan Capital LLC, an alternative-asset management firm. Previously he worked at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston.

New York's BlackRock, in which Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. owns a minority stake, manages $1.4 trillion of assets.
