Capital Briefs: $13M Awarded for Community Development

Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin Friday announced $13.1 million in Bank Enterprise Awards for 38 banks and thrifts that have increased their community development lending.

Chase Manhattan Bank received the largest award, $2.7 million, for investing nearly $18 million in 14 organizations that fund community development.

The Bank Enterprise Award program provides cash incentives to banks and thrifts that expand their lending in very-low-income communities.
