Capital Briefs: FDIC Offering Customer Brochure on Year-2000

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. last week unveiled a year-2000 information brochure for bank customers.

The agency is offering banks free camera-ready copies of the new brochure, which addresses questions about the possible effects of the computer bug on banks and thrifts and about the government's efforts to stem the problem.

Banks can add their own logo and information to the brochure. But if they delete or edit any part of the FDIC's text, they must remove the agency's logo.

For copies, send a fax request to the FDIC at (202) 416-2076, an electronic mail request to publicinfo fdic.gov, or download the brochure at www.fdic.gov/consumer/index.html.
