The board named Dennis F. Lynch the new chairman; his appointment took effect Nov. 10, the company said on Thursday. Lynch has been a board member since January 2008.

Lummis had been the chairman since June 2001, when CapStreet Group LLC bought a controlling interest in Cardtronics.

The ATM independent sales organization went from having a few hundred machines to more than 33,000 in three countries under Lummis.

"Without Fred's leadership and guidance over the past nine years, Cardtronics would not have grown into the successful company that it is today," Steven Rathgaber, the company's chief executive, said in a press release. Both Rathgaber and Lynch once are former presidents of NYCE Corp.

Cardtronics also announced that Mark Rossi had been appointed an independent director; he is to join the board Dec. 1.
