Cash Register from Sterling Adds Cards

The independent sales organization Sterling Payment Technologies has developed an electronic cash register that incorporates payment card acceptance.

The Tampa company's ExpressLane register features a built-in reader and relies on high-speed data connectivity to process payment card transactions. ExpressLane accepts credit, debit and gift card transactions.

"We really focus on technology because we realize the ISO market is commodity-driven and everyone sells on price," Bob Ficarra, Sterling's vice president of sales, said in an interview last week.

Reports generated by the register include cash and payment card transactions, something many merchants with separate cash registers and payment terminals must combine manually. The register also includes an inventory-control program.

Using the register also requires merchants to process transactions through Sterling.
