WASHINGTON — The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Department of Justice agreed Thursday to collaborate on enforcing fair lending laws to avoid duplicating efforts.

Both agencies have authority to protect against discriminatory lending, including through the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. But the Dodd-Frank Act also authorizes the CFPB to do joint investigations with the Justice Department when it relates to fair lending.
