Citibank Malaysia and Shell Malaysia have revamped the cobranded Visa credit card they launched in 2007.
Media reports indicated that the two companies decided to redesign the card after a low subscription to the earlier version of the product.
Citigroup Inc. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC did not respond to requests for comment about the revamp.
Cardholders will receive rebate savings of up to 8% a year on purchases of fuel and products at Shell Select stores, according to an April 21 press release.
Previously, cardholders saved on the fuel surcharge only when paying for fuel at Shell gas stations but did not get any discounts either for fuel or purchases at Shell Select stores.
Mrinalini Manral, an independent banking analyst in Mumbai, said that "8% percent is quite a carrot for customers and shows that Citi and Shell are willing to turn the corner for this card."
