Commonwealth in Kentucky names Thomas as president.

Carl M. Thomas has been named president and chief executive officer of Commonwealth Bank and Trust Co., Louisville, Ky.

Mr. Thomas succeeds John A. Brenzel, who the bank said has resigned to devote full time to personal business interests.

Mr. Thomas has been executive vice president and senior loan officer since Commonwealth was established in 1991. He previously was with First National Bank of Louisville (now National City Bank) for 19 years. During his last five years with First National, he was a senior vice president and manager of the private banking division.

Darrell R. Wells continues as chairman of Commonwealth, a locally owned and managed, full-service bank with more than $100 million of assets.

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

FIRST FIDELITY Bank, Hawthorne, N.Y., said Stephen R. Weiss has joined the bank as an assistant vice president in the the public affairs-government-Community Reinvestment Act department.

He is responsible for affordable-housing new business development in Westchester and Rockland counties and the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Mr. Weiss previously served as a loan officer specializing in Federal Home Loan Mortgage Association loan workouts at Dorman & Wilson real estate investment bankers in White Plains.

BENEFICIAL Savings Bank, Philadelphia, has promoted three men to senior vice president. They are:

* Edward P. Furia to senior vice president with responsibility for financial and regulatory reporting, compliance, insurance, and planning.

* William J. Kline Jr. to senior vice president and controller.

* Donald R. Simpson to senior vice president of the lending division with responsibility for all commercial and consumer lending activities;

Joseph P. McCauley was promoted to treasurer; he remains senior vice president of the securities and funds management department. Joseph P. Krisciunas was promoted to vice president of the commercial loan department.

SOUTHWEST

SOUTHWEST GUARANTY Trust Co., Houston, has named Ronald L. Ehrig as vice president of the company, which has offices in Dallas and Bryan/College Station.

Mr. Ehrig is responsible for developing and servicing the independent trust business resulting from the company's recent endorsement by IBAT Services Inc., a subsidiary of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas to provide trust services to customers of IBAT member banks.

He had been vice president of lending at American Bank.

GUARANTY FEDERAL Bank, Dallas, said Abbie Y. Tidmore has joined the bank as vice president and senior relationship manager in the mortgage finance group.

Ms. Tidmore was a vice president in the commercial lending division of Texas Commerce Bank-Houston. She also had served in the commercial lending groups of First City-Texas in Dallas and Bank One in Dallas.

SOUTHEAST

FIRST NATIONAL Bank, Gainesville, Ga., has promoted David T. Brunson to first vice president in the trust services division. He is responsible for the management of this division.

James Andracchi has been promoted to vice president in the personal computer services department. Mr. Andracchi is responsible for installation and maintenance of computers, networks and software.

FIRST NATIONAL Bank, Bonita Springs, Fla., has promoted Philip B. LoPresti to first vice president, commercial real estate.

WEST

TRANSWORLD Bank, Sherman Oaks, Calif., principal subsidiary of TransWorld Bancorp., has promoted Randal B. Baker to senior vice president, compliance and loan review. He was vice president of the bank.

John R. Marquis has been promoted to executive vice president, branch administration and marketing. He was a senior vice president of the bank.

Terry Ann Conrad has joined the bank as vice president, operations administration. She was senior vice president and chief financial officer at E1 Segundo First National Bank.
