Continental Prison Systems Inc., which provides kiosks that perform financial transactions for prison inmates, has reached a 10-year agreement with Rikers Island, New York's main jail facility.
Continental, which does business as EZ Card and Kiosk, will deploy four lobby kiosks at Rikers Island, the Lodi, Calif., company announced June 3. Prisoners' relatives and friends may use the kiosks to deposit funds into inmates' trust accounts using a credit or debit card or cash, Continental said.
The kiosk also accepts banknotes and coins from inmates when jail employees book them after their arrest. It deposits the funds into the trust accounts, and the machine dispenses a receipt the inmates keep and another that stays with their personal belongings, according to the release.
Inmates use the receipts while in jail to purchase products or services using debits from their accounts.
