MONTVALE, N.J. -- Cost-control pressures remain strong in corporate America, according to a survey by the controllers council of the Institute of Management Accountants.

Although more than half of the almost 500 corporate controllers responding predicted higher sales, profits, and cash flows, their companies' spending was generally the same or lower than in the second quarter of last year.
