Cordray: From Jeopardy Champ to CFPB

WASHINGTON — A five-time, undefeated Jeopardy! champion who was tapped to monitor banks' compliance with consumer rules.

Who is Richard Cordray?

Indeed, the White House pick to lead the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau not only had a string of victories on the famous quiz show, but was also a semifinalist on the show's Tournament of Champions in 1987.

"That's why all his … answers at his confirmation hearings will be in the form of a question," President Obama joked when announcing Cordray's nomination Monday.

Jeopardy! wasn't his first quiz show appearance. While the former Ohio attorney general worked an after-school job at a McDonald's in the state as a youngster, he became a champion of the high-school quiz show In The Know.
