Date Set for HUD Pick Carson's Senate Confirmation Hearing

WASHINGTON — The Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Jan. 12 on the nomination of Ben Carson as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

President-elect Donald Trump first announced that he was considering the retired neurosurgeon for the post in a November tweet.

The hearing will be the first for the banking panel in the new Congress. Carson's nomination will have to be approved by a panel majority before moving to a vote in the full chamber.

If confirmed, Carson would succeed current HUD Secretary Julian Castro, a former mayor of San Antonio.

The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
