Editor's Note on Redesigned Web and Print Editions

American Banker today introduces full-scale redesigns of its two core information products, its daily newspaper and its online service, americanbanker.com.

The daily American Banker was founded in 1836 and is the oldest financial newspaper in the United States. (The illustrations at right offer a small blast from our past.) AmericanBanker.com made its debut in 1996.

In executing the redesign of the print edition, the editors sought to observe the best standards of newspaper design - emphasizing clarity, readability, and directness of communication. At the same time, we attempted to show respect for our history. Online, our values were similar: accessibility, well-organized navigational components, and clean, logical displays.

As readers will no doubt observe, the changes we have made are not limited to the visual and organizational. We have also added content categories to both media, including a series of columns on page 1 in the daily and a pair of intra-day news feeds on the Web, among many other things.

Furthermore, both redesigns are intended to serve as platforms to grow on - so expect a steady stream of additional content enhancements in days and months to come.
