MIDDLE ATLANTIC

UBS Warburg in New York has hired James J. Ryan as a managing director and the head of the U.S. transportation sector in its corporate finance department.

He reports to David A. Freud, global head of transportation corporate finance, and Robert H. Hotz, head of U.S. corporate finance.

Mr. Ryan was a managing director of the mergers and acquisitions division of Chase Securities Inc., where he was responsible for covering transportation companies. Before that he had been a managing director in the corporate finance division and the head of the transportation group at Salomon Smith Barney Inc.


American International Group Inc. in New York has given Kevin Hogan and Julio Portalatin the title of vice president.Their responsibilities did not change.

Mr. Hogan remains the president of the international accident and health division at American International Underwriters, AIG's overseas property-casualty operations; he has held that job since 1998. He has worked at AIG's New York office since 1984. Before that he had been American International Underwriters' general manager in Singapore and its regional casualty manager in Hong Kong.

Mr. Portalatin remains the president of American International Underwriters' personal lines division, as he has been since 1996. Before that he had been its divisional regional vice president for Latin America and was based in Mexico. Still earlier he had been the president and general manager at AIG Mexico Seguros Interamericana SA, the company's Mexican property-casualty insurance company; and the New York-based executive vice president of AIU's Latin American division. He has also worked for AIG's Lexington Insurance Co.

AIG is an international insurance and financial services company and a commercial and industrial insurance underwriter.


SOUTHWESTHibernia National Bank in New Orleans has named financial accounting officer Sheila M. Joseph and accounting officer Stephanie W. Rowley assistant vice presidents of financial accounting.

Ms. Joseph remains responsible for reconciling balance sheets, maintenance of mortgage servicing rights, and cash flow analysis. She has two years of banking experience.

Ms. Rowley remains responsible for preparing quarterly and annual financial statements. She has four years of banking experience.
