Fiserv has hired Ginger Schmeltzer, formerly SunTrust's senior vice president of digital channel management, to be its senior vice president of emerging payments and digital payment solutions, a newly created position.

"The demand for digital payments and services, and the potential for innovation in this area, led us to create this role," said Rahul Gupta, group president for digital payment solutions at Fiserv, in a press release.

Schmeltzer will lead the development and execution of initiatives focused on delivering new payment services, the Brookfield, Wis., vendor said in its Aug. 28 announcement. Her initial focus is on mobile payments.

In her previous role, Schmeltzer oversaw SunTrust's online banking, mobile banking and digital money movement systems, as well as online sales. She handled strategies for mobile banking, person-to-person payments and electronic billing and payment, Fiserv's press release said.

"Ginger's skills and talents are an ideal fit with what we envisioned, and her deep and diverse experience will help Fiserv anticipate and meet demand for our existing mobile and payments services while also addressing emerging opportunities," Gupta said in the release.
