Franklin Templeton Unit Starts Two Funds

Franklin Templeton Investments Corp., a Toronto unit of Franklin Resources Inc., launched a global fund of funds and a North American quant fund for Canadians who want a conservative way to re-enter the equity markets while balancing their risk with fixed income.

The Franklin Templeton Global Blend Fund allows investors to participate in equity returns while maintaining the stability of fixed income investing, the unit announced Monday. The underlying funds are the Templeton Global Bond Fund, the Mutual Discovery Fund, and the Franklin World Growth Fund.

Fiduciary Trust Co. of Canada will be the fund's portfolio adviser.

The quant fund, the Bissett Focus Balanced Fund, invests primarily in a diversified portfolio of equity securities in Canada and the United States, Canadian federal, provincial, and corporate bonds, and global fixed-income securities.

The screening model identifies Canadian and U.S. equities while incorporating a mix of historical and projected financial and stock market data, Franklin Templeton said.

Bissett Investment Management manages the fund's asset allocation.

Franklin Resources Inc.had $404 billion of assets under management as of Nov. 30.
